Travis' Lone Goal Propels Eagles to Victory

Box Score HELENA, Mont. – It was quality versus quantity as the NU Eagles shut out the Carroll Fighting Saints on their home pitch, 1-0, on a cold and windy afternoon in Cascade Conference play.

Carroll outshot the Eagles 14 to 8 in the game, but it was Jordan Travis' quality shot in the 77th minute that lifted Northwest U to the victory.  Travis' goal came off a deflected cross that he put into the goal for the game winner. It was the only shot of the game for Travis, but proved to be the only score of the game.

Daniel Christenson came up with the shutout and made a crucial save with just 14 seconds remaining in the game as he saved a shot from Isaac Bostrom to preserve the win. The biggest save of the game, however, came in the 67th minute when he stopped a penalty kick by Carroll's Jose Porras.

Christenson earned the win and clean sheet for Northwest U (8-5-1, 6-3-1 CCC) making 7 saves in 90minutes of play. Alex Ballard led the Eagles with 3 shots, 2 shots on goal.

For Carroll (7-6, 5-5 CCC), Bernhardt Di Cino took the loss in goal for the Saints making two saves. Isaac Bostrom took 4 shots with two shots on goal for the Saints.

"Today, we had to play against Mother Nature as much as we did Carroll," said Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "Playing into the wind the first half was difficult and I felt like we handled the situation well.  I knew if we could get into halftime 0-0, that we had a good chance in second half.  Our second half work rate and passing was excellent and we had everyone contributing. Daniel came up big for us saving a PK and keeping us in the game. For Jordan (Travis) to come off the bench with an injured back for 10 minutes and score the game winner was amazing."

Next Up: The Eagles face the University of Providence in Great Falls, Mont., on Saturday at 2:30 PT.
