Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Solid Defense and two timely goals helped the Eagles defeat the University of Providence, 2-1, on the Argos home field today. It was another cold and windy day in Big Sky Country.
Northwest U got on the scoreboard early in the first half when
Jake Morse put his 18 yard shot into the back of the net on a pass from teammate
Lucas Alves in the 15th minute of the game.
In the 38
th minute, it would be
Chris Iacolucci touching one past the UP goalkeeper for a score with
Kyle Zimmerman getting the assist. The Eagle defense withstood 21 shots from the Argos, 13 in the first half, denying UP a score for the 2-0 going into halftime.
It wouldn't be until the 68:20 mark that the Argos would finally score when Christopher Chaves took Cole Meyers pass across the face of the goal and put his shot into the right corner of the net. From that point on, the Eagle defense would take over not allowing another Providence shot while taking two shots and three corners of their own.
Daniel Christenson had another strong outing for Northwest U (9-5-1, 7-3-1 CCC) with 5 saves in 90 minutes in goal. Chis Iacolucci took 5 shots for the Eagles, two shots on goal and the score.
Lucas Alves had three shots, one shot on goal.
"It was a great win for the team today," commented NU head coach,
Gary McIntosh. "The attitude and effort this team played with today was exactly what we needed to win this game. Our defense was stifling for the entire game and that allowed our offense to really get going. I am very proud of this team and the determination they played with."
Next Up: The College of Idaho comes to Kirkland next Friday as the Eagles wrap up their season at home.
