Eagles Down Owls in Four

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - The NU Eagles downed a tough Oregon Tech team, 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12), in Cascade Conference play tonight in the NU Pavilion to clinch a spot in the 2017 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.

In the first set, NU would break the final of nine ties and an early lead by the Owls for the come from behind win. Keann White's kill and three straight OIT attack errors would give the Eagles a 23-19 lead. Back to back kills by White and Audrey Saelens would give NU the 1-0 set lead.
 
Leading 19-14 in the second set, NU would outscore the Owls 4-0 to lead 23-14. OIT would cut the lead to 23-15, but Mattie Jo Johnson and Amanda Waterman would end the set with their kills.

Oregon Tech would battle back in the third set coming back from an 8-4 deficit to overtake the Eagles and lead 15-10 after an NU miscue. They would stretch their lead to 20-12 after three NU attack errors and a service ace by Jamie Toedtemeier. NU would come back to tie the set at 20-20, but the Owls would outscore the Eagles 5-3 caped off by Chase Bohman's kills to make it a 2-1 match.

In set four and NU leading 9-8, the Eagles would slowly pull away to lead 20-12 after three straight errors by OIT. NU would then hold Tech scoreless the remainder of the set with two service aces and three kills to end the set and the match.

Northwest U (18-7, 12-5 CCC) got 12 kills from Audrey Saelens with teammate Keann White adding 10 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Morgan Pilon led both teams with a 34 assist night and Sarah Warner had 17 digs with Alysanne van Dyke adding 16.

Chase Bohman led Oregon Tech (9-13, 7-10 CCC) with 13 kills and 15 digs. Jaime Toedtemeier led the Owls with 28 assists and Courtney Smith had 15 defensive digs.

"Oregon Tech had a nice game plan tonight and from the get go they put pressure on us with their tough serving," commented NU coach, Steven Bain. "With the exception of the 3rd set though, our ladies played to their standards and I was pleased with how they managed the game when the match was on the line. It was also rewarding to clinch a playoff berth and we are excited for the opportunity to play a very good Southern Oregon squad tomorrow night."
