NU Shuts Out Lions; Earn #4 Seed

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The NU Eagles were very efficient as they defeated Multnomah University in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-12 as they posted their 21st victory of the season for a record of 21-7. The Eagles hit .326 as a team tonight and with the win earns the #4 seed going into next week's CCC Championships.
 
Multnomah battled the Eagles in set one to trail by three, 13-10, but the Eagles would catch fire and outscore the Lions 12-7 the remainder of the set for the win. A Sarah Warner kill would put NU up 1-0 in the match.
 
NU would continue their momentum in the second set jumping out to a 21-9 lead on kills by Amanda Waterman and Audrey Saelens. MU would make it a 24-15 set, but another Waterman kill would end the set. The Eagles hit .348 with 3 errors.
 
Set three would be a mirror image of the third set as NU would jump on the Lions to lead 21-9, but this set, would only allow 3 points the remainder of the way and two more kills by Amanda Waterman would give the Eagles a 15-5 league mark.
 
Audrey Saelens led the Eagles with 9 kills, no errors on her way to a .692 hitting night. Sarah Warner, Amanda Waterman and Mattie Jo Johnson would all post 7 kills. Morgan Pilon totaled 28 assists for a match high and Alysanne Van Dyke led the way with 20 digs. NU had 10 blocks.
 
Multnomah (8-21, 3-17 CCC) was led by Miranda Halverson's 8 kills. Teammate Marissa Rhodes had 1 assists and Sabrin DeJesus-Bair led the Lions with 13 digs. MU was held to a .040 hitting average as a team.
 
"Multnomah defends their home court with high energy, which makes it a tough place to play", commented NU head coach, Steven Bain. "Our ladies did an excellent job throughout of managing their emotions and worked hard to stay connected in each phase of the game.  It's a credit to our seniors who have played with maturity all year and I'm pleased that they closed out the regular season with two solid wins on the road."
 
NU now moves on to the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Championships as the #4 seed and will host Southern Oregon on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m., in the NU Pavilion.
