NU Men Edge NCU on Golden Goal

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University's Chris Iacolucci scored the golden goal 18 seconds before the end of the first overtime to help lead the Eagles to a narrow 2-1 overtime victory this afternoon.

Northwest Christian played courageously and shorthanded for the final 24 minutes of the game while creating good opportunities for a score. A Beacon played was disqualified with his second yellow card giving Northwest U the one man advantage, but the Beacons defense would not allow a score until the overtime period when Iacolucci took Jack Macdonald's pass in the box and finished for the NU victory.

It was MacDonald putting NU into the lead in the 26th minute as he took a corner kick from Trent Siedenburg on the right side and finished from 8 yards out.

NCU's Olisa Obianozie tied the game at the 52:14 mark on a penalty kick after a Beacon was fouled on the left side of the box. Obianozie put his kick into the upper right corner and passed NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson for the goal.

Daniel Christenson earned the win for Northwest U (3-2, 1-0 CCC) making 6 key saves in the game, 2 in the second half that prevented NCU from taking the lead and stopping two hard back-to-back shots in overtime right before Iacolucci's golden goal. NU took 25 shots to NCU's 15 with Lucas Alves leading the way with 6 shots, 3 on goal.

For Northwest Christian (0-4,0-1 CCC), Yayo Olvera was solid in goal for the Beacons making 7 saves. Victor Irechchukwu led NCU with 3 shots, one shot on goal.

"It was great to get the win today, said Gary McIntosh," NU had coach. "I give a lot of credit to Northwest Christian as they made it very difficult for us today. I thought our offense was good in the first half as we created several good chances and we must be better in front of the goal with our finishing. In the second half, we were a bit sluggish and we allowed them to gain some momentum which made the game difficult for us. Both Jack and Chris scored big goals for us today and they are deserving as they both put in effort across the top all game. Daniel (Christenson) in goal came up with huge saves that kept us in the game definitely one of his best games."

Next Up: The Eagles take on Corban University on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the NU Athletic Field.
