Eagles and EOU Battle to Double Overtime Tie

Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eagles and Eastern Oregon battled for 110 minutes without a winning goal as the game ends in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes.

Eastern Oregon got off to a quick and early start as Julian Wells scored unassisted at just 5:02 into the game.

EOU would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the half and for 45 minutes until Obi Esonu would score for the Eagles at the 50:55 mark off a double assist by Leon Bormann and Joey Starr. Neither team would manage a score the rest of the game in spite of 18 combined shots in the period.

In the overtime periods, EOU outshot NU 4-2 with NU keeper, Daniel Christenson making a key save in the 104th minute to stop an EOU goal attempt.

Both teams played shorthanded after three red cards were handed out in the 57th minute between the teams, two to NU and one to EOU. The Eagle defense would not allow an EOU shot the final 14 minutes of regulation. Branson Corwin would have one last shot on goal in the 87th minute the Eastern Oregon would deny the score.

A physical game, a total of 31 fouls, three yellow cards and three red cards were dealt out by the center official.

Northwest U's (3-3-1, 1-1-1 CCC) Daniel Christenson was solid in goal making 5 saves for the Eagles. Obi Esonu took 8 of NU's 17 shots, two shots on goal.

Adam Wright made 4 saves for the Mountaineers (4-1-1, 1-0-1 CCC) while Alex Gutierrez took six shots for EOU, two shots on goal. EOU held an 11-3 edge on corner kicks.

Next Up: NU heads to Portland and will play a late 10 pm game against Warner Pacific tomorrow night.
