NU Gets Big Shutout in Portland

Jordan Travis scored the first goal and eventual game winner tonight
Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Facing adversity sometimes brings out the best in teams, and it did tonight as the Eagles earned a 3-0 shutout victory over Warner Pacific in Cascade Conference play.

Missing two starters, the Eagles played solid team soccer as Jordan Travis opened the scoring with what proved to be the game winner in the 33rd minute as he tapped in Elijah Gordon's cross for the score. Less than four minutes later it would be Trent Siedenburg scoring from 10 yards out on the left side as he put his half volley past the WPC goalkeeper and into the upper right corner after a throw in. Credit Obi Esonu with the assist.

Branson Corwin would score the game clincher at the 86:54 mark heading in Joey Starr's cross on a counter attack and putting it into the net as Northwest U would earn their second conference win and improve to 2-1-1 in league play.

Daniel Christenson earned the shutout in goal for Northwest U (4-3-1, 2-1-1 CCC) getting his clean sheet with 5 saves in a game that started at 10 p.m. NU outshot the Knights 10-8 with both teams taking 5 shots on goal.

Erdal Barkay took the loss for Warner Pacific (0-2, 0-2 CCC) with 2 saves in goal. Artur Pereira led the Knights with 3 shots, 2 shots on goal.

"We played a complete game tonight from start to finish," said Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "I'm pleased with our commitment to defend, keep our shape, and earn the shutout. Goals scored by three different players shows we did a good job getting everyone involved. It's has been a tough few days for this team and it is great to see them pull together under adversity. We talk about the Lord having a plan for us as a team and we continue to trust Him along our journey."
Next Up: NU will travel to Olympia next Saturday for a conference game with the Evergreen State College on the Geoducks' home pitch.
