NU Scores Second Straight Shutout

Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – Northwest U scored a goal in each half to earn a 2-0 shutout victory over the Evergreen State College this afternoon. It was their second straight clean sheet. Playing through a down pour at times, the Eagles' defense limited the Geoducks to 9 shots in the game.
 
Jordan Travis scored the game winner at the 19:12 mark of the first half as he headed in his score from close range after taking Obi Esonu's pass in the scoring area. NU would take the 1-0 lead into the half as their defense would only allow three Evergreen shots in the period.
 
The second half would be closely played until the 77th minute when Max Schellmann took Trent Siedenburg's cross and scored in front of the goal from 6 yards out.
 
Daniel Christenson earned the shutout making two saves in goal for Northwest U (5-3-1, 3-1-1 CCC). Travis led NU with 3 shots with the one goal scored. Lucas Alves also had 3 shots for the game.
 
Evergreen's goalkeeper, Ben Stevenson, took the loss making two saves in 90 minutes of play.
 
"I'm very pleased with how we played today," said Northwest U head coach, Gary McIntosh. "We had a game plan and the guys did an excellent executing it.  Our shape was tight and we eliminated all the gaps and shut down their attack. Our offense scored the goals we needed for the day."
 
Next Up: The Eagles will remain on the road and will travel to Portland, Ore., on Friday, Oct. 6 to play Multnomah University.
