KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University hosted a four-team tournament that started with Corban University playing Carroll College. The Eagles followed immediately against the University of Providence Argos. Every team coming in to this weekend was undefeated. We will see how many leave this weekend still undefeated.
Carroll College (5-0, overall) Fighting Saints got off to a slow start when they found themselves down 4-14. Corban (5-1, overall), in an effort to secure the ball, called a 30-second time-out that gave Carroll all the time they needed to make the necessary adjustments. The Fighting Saints went on a 23-0 run to take the lead 27-14. The Warriors did everything they could to regain the lead but were unsuccessful. Matt Wyman led the Fighting Saints with 27 points and 4 rebounds. The Warriors were led by Beau Roggenbach with 21 points and 8 rebounds.
Northwest University (5-1, overall), much like the Fighting Saints, found themselves in a hole early in the game, trailing the University of Providence Argos (4-0, overall) 8-0. Despite great effort, the Eagles were never able to gain the lead. Statistically, the Eagles led in rebounds, assists, points off turnovers, second-chance points, points in the paint, and points from the bench. Everything about the stats would indicate that Northwest University should have come out with a win. However, the Argos played a fast-paced game that the Eagles were not ready for, and University of Providence outshot the Eagles, shooting 45% from the field and 31% from the three-point line.
Hussayn Ford led the Eagles with his third double-double in four games. He had 19 points and 14 rebounds. D'shea Williams responded, putting up 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Argos.
Northwest University's head coach
Jeff Drinkwine commented, "We started out slow and on our heels. Once we adjusted to the speed of the game, our guys stepped up and were able to close the gap. We should see growth from this game. I am excited to see how they react tomorrow night."
