NEWBERG, Ore. – Northwest University men's soccer (1-0, overall) had a slower start to the season due to poor air conditions in the Kirkland area. The Eagles are quickly making up for lost time by extending their game into overtime against the George Fox Bruins. Northwest University scored the only goal of the day in overtime, when
Titus Nickson beat the defender and placed the ball in the right side of the goal to win 1-0.
Head Coach
Gary McIntosh explained, "The team played really well the first half. I was pleased with our defensive shape, as we had worked on it all week." In the second half, Northwest University found themselves playing down a man when
Jordan Travis received his first red card of the season. McIntosh stated, "We had talked about toughness and grit during our training camp, and this is when it comes into play. The team responded to the challenge. Being able to walk away with a win just adds the icing on the cake!"
Blake Dornay and
Agazi Birkner made it possible for Northwest University to walk away with a win. Together they were able to shut out the Bruins for 105 minutes. Birkner started the game and made 3 saves in the first half. Dornay came in during the second half to make 1 save.
