Eagles Can’t Summit the Mountain Against No. 21 Eastern Oregon

Written by: Clayton Hashley

La Grande, Ore. – Northwest University (5-9, 1-4 CCC) was unable to capitalize after winning the first set against No. 21 Eastern Oregon University (10-4, 5-1 CCC), ending the match in a 3-1 loss. The Eagles came out strong with a 26-24 win in the first set, but they could not reproduce their success, dropping three consecutive sets (25-8, 25-12, 25-22).

Courteney Carr led the Eagles with 25 assists, and Cristina Hegarty led the defense with 21 digs.

The Mountaineers had a solid performance throughout the match, led by a balanced defensive effort, as the team had a combined 68 digs and 8 blocks.

Eagle head coach Steve Bain explained, "We played another tough, physical opponent tonight, and while we were able to hang with them at times, Eastern's ability to dig and side out in transition was superior to ours, and when the match was on the line, we were unable to convert. On the plus side, we are starting to play with the energy required to be successful in the CCC, and I am encouraged by the positive approach and the team's commitment to our process."
