PORTLAND – Northwest and Warner Pacific played to a 1-1 draw Friday–-the first tie this season for the Eagles.
Alexander Thiehofe had two overtime saves and finished with 15 saves for the match. That mark is the most saves since
Agazi Birkner collected 17 in a 2-2 tie with Eastern Oregon last season.
The Knights scored in the 35
th minute with a goal by Franklin Cordon and held NU to one shot in the first half.
Elliott Misic would get the equalizer on Northwest's just fourth shot, scoring with 4:23 left in regulation time. Warner Pacific outshot the Eagles 21-4 over the first 90 minutes, with
Alexander Thiehofe collecting 13 saves.
"I was happy with the tie today," said NU Head Coach
Gary McIntosh. "Today was not an easy game to play. I thought that coming away with a tie and points was important, and the guys did a great job of getting those. Elliot's goal was great on the set piece, as we really struggled to get shots off today."
Northwest ended the game with five shots and two shots on goal. Misic had three of the shots, and
Tyler Hopp had the other shot on goal.
The Eagles return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday to finish the Portland trip with a contest against Multnomah.
