NU Strengthens Playoff Position with Win

KIRKLAND – Northwest energized its postseason hopes with a 2-0 win over Oregon Tech Friday.

The win has the Eagles tied for sixth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. The Eagles can secure a playoff spot with a win against Southern Oregon Saturday or with a loss by Evergreen or Carroll. Evergreen hosts Oregon Tech, and Carroll closes at home with Providence.

Jordan Travis got the game winner in the 22nd minute, playing in a corner kick by Gian Herrera.

Elliot Misic finished the scoring in the 37th minute, taking a feed from Kyle Han and beating the keeper.

"I thought the team played well today," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "We came out with a lot of energy and heart. Goals by Jordan and Elliot were well taken and gave us the lift we needed. Defensively, we did an excellent job of not giving them great looks at the goal. Now we rest overnight and get ready for our last home game for our seniors."

The Eagles had 15 shots in the game and put seven on frame. Travis, Misic, and Herrera had three shots and three shots on goal each.

Alexander Thiehofe had six saves in producing his fifth shutout of the season.

The Eagles finish the regular season and celebrate Senior Day Saturday against Southern Oregon in a 2:30 p.m. contest at home.
