Eagles' Cold Shooting Leads to Loss

SALEM, Ore. – Northwest shot a frosty 20.8 percent from the field, including 4-of-37 in the middle two quarters in its 68-48 loss at Corban Friday night.

The Eagles overcame a 0-8 start and trailed just 18-13 after the first quarter. NU, however, managed just eight and five points in the second and third periods and fell behind 52-26 heading into the final frame.

Foul trouble also plagued the Eagles early.

Northwest righted the ship in the fourth quarter, posting 22 points, including four three-pointers.

"It was a tough game tonight for the Lady Eagles," said NU Head Coach Ken Crawford. "It was a very poor shooting night, and that didn't help against a well-coached, disciplined Corban team. We continue to learn, and though it is not fun to lose, we keep talking about making strides in the right direction. We get another chance to do that tomorrow night at Northwest Christian."

Ellesse FitzGerald came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 12 points. Freshmen Maya DuChesne and Athena Taylor added 11 and eight, respectively.

Shelaine Lorenz led the Eagles with seven rebounds. FitzGerald led with four assists.

Jordan Woodvine scored 19 points to lead CU, while Shaelie Burgess had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Now 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, NU goes to Eugene Saturday to face Northwest Christian at 5:30 p.m.
