Eagles Use Big Fourth Quarter to Trap Geoducks

Written by: Clayton Hashley

Olympia, Wash. – Northwest University (10-18, 7-11 CCC) kept their composure against Evergreen State College (0-20, 0-16 CCC), using a big fourth quarter to contain the Geoducks and win 58-51.

The score remained close for much of the game, with neither team ever securing a double-digit lead. The Eagles found themselves down heading into the fourth quarter after a miserably low-scoring third quarter from both teams. Northwest finished with six points in the quarter to the Geoducks' nine.

The Eagles came back in the fourth, however, outscoring the Geoducks by eight points in the quarter. They remained calm at the end, hitting crucial free throws to close out the game and nab the win.

Sam Van Loo led the Eagles in scoring with 11 points and in grabbing nine rebounds. Miranda Langenhorst contributed as well with ten rebounds, including a rebound that made her the all-time career rebound leader in the history of the school's women's team!

Northwest head coach Ken Crawford commented, "This was a hard-fought win for the Lady Eagles tonight against a motivated and hard-working Geoduck team. The Lady Eagles are going to enjoy a couple of days off and will get ready for the final games next weekend down in Portland. Congratulations to Miranda Langenhorst for becoming the all-time career rebound leader in NU women's basketball history."
