La Grande, Ore. – Northwest University (6-15, 2-8 CCC) used a huge first inning to propel themselves to victory over Eastern Oregon University (4-19, 2-8 CCC), winning the game 9-7.

The Eagles scored four runs in the first inning to start the game off with a bang! The first two runs came as Jessica Nunes doubled down the right field line, giving Alexis Contreras and Samantha Parisio the opportunity to score. They scored again when Hayden Craig singled up the middle and brought baserunners Carly Tighe and Nicola Fish home for the run.

The third inning saw continued success for the Eagles, as Nicola Fish hit a home run to left field, and Nunes scored off a hit from Mikayla Wells. The Eagles scored three more times in the game, though they gave up seven runs in the last five innings, which was still not enough for the Mountaineers.

Alexis Contreras, Jessica Nunes, and Hayden Craig all had two RBIs in the game, and Courtney Heard led the team with three hits. Nicola Fish led the Eagles with three runs scored.

Isabella Gonzalez and Rachel Hawley pitched for Northwest, together allowing nine hits and pitching three strikeouts.

The second game of the day was postponed due to darkness and will resume Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
