Eagles Find Weekend Success Against Eastern Oregon

La Grande, Ore. – Northwest University (8-16, 4-8 CCC) ended up with three conference wins on the weekend as they played against Eastern Oregon University (5-21, 2-10 CCC). Friday night's second game was postponed, so the seventh inning of the game was played on Saturday morning, resulting in a 9-5 win for the Eagles. The Eagles won the next game 8-5 but lost the last game (non-conference) 5-0.
 
Game one – Northwest University 9, Eastern Oregon University 5
 
Most of the game was played on Friday evening, when the Eagles pulled ahead 9-5. After going down 4-1 after the first inning, the Eagles scored three consecutive runs, with Sammi Caron involved in all three. She had two RBIs and scored a run off a hit from Alexis Contreras. The Mountaineers responded with a run in the third to take the lead, but the Eagles scored five consecutive runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead for good. Alexis Contreras hit a homer to center field, Samantha Parisio brought two runners home, and Nicola Fish brought two more home!
 
The game finished with a scoreless inning played on Saturday morning. Sammi Caron, Samantha Parisio, Alexis Contreras, and Nicola Fish all had two RBIs in the game.
 
Rachel Hawley pitched for Northwest, allowing seven hits and throwing two strikeouts.
 
Game two – Northwest University 8, Eastern Oregon University 5
 
The Eagles started the scoring in the first round with a grounder from Alexis Contreras. After giving up two runs, Northwest rattled off four runs in a row in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. After some back-and-forth action, a series of steals in the fourth inning resulted in a score by Ashley Oswald.
 
The Eagles gave up a homerun in the fifth inning to bring their lead to 6-5, but they scored two runs in the final inning to put the final nail in the coffin.
 
Alexis Contreras and Nicola Fish both had two RBIs in the game.
 
Rachel Hawley pitched two innings, allowing no hits and throwing two strikeouts. Isabella Gonzalez pitched for the majority of the rest of the game, allowing nine hits and throwing one strikeout.
 
Game three – Eastern Oregon University 5, Northwest University 0
 
The final game of the weekend resulted in a non-conference loss for the Eagles, who gave up three homeruns from the Mountaineers.
 
Carly Tighe and Isabella Gonzalez pitched for the Eagles.
 
Northwest head coach Pam Fink commented, "We made program history this week! It was the first time ever to win four consecutive games, and it was our first conference series sweep! I'm extremely proud of their growth! The pitchers threw well, and we got the timely hits! It was an exciting week for NU softball! We keep getting better every day!"
