Eagles Drop Two More Against College of Idaho

Written by: Clayton Hashley

Bellevue, Wash. – Northwest University (8-20) could not pull out a win this weekend as they lost the final two games of the series against College of Idaho (26-6), a team that is receiving votes for national ranking. The first game ended in a tight 3-2 victory for the Yotes, and the Eagles lost the second game 7-2.

Game one – College of Idaho 3, Northwest University 2

Northwest seemed to be in prime winning position for most of the first game, as they led 2-1 going into the sixth inning. Their first score came in the first inning, as Nicola Fish singled up the middle, and Sammi Caron ran in for the run. Caron was also the sole breadwinner for the Eagles' second score, as she hit a homerun in the third inning to earn the RBI and put her team ahead.

The sixth inning proved to be the Eagles' crux, as the Yotes hit a triple and scored to tie the game. Minutes later, they scored again to take the lead off a sacrifice fly ball. The Eagles tried to rally back in the final two innings, getting on base in both innings, but they were unable to send the runners home.

Carly Tighe pitched an outstanding game for Northwest, only giving up four hits and throwing five strikeouts. The Eagles had six hits in the game.

Game two – College of Idaho 7, Northwest University 2

Despite a large margin of victory for the Yotes, the score remained close for much of game two. Nicola Fish and Samantha Parisio earned the RBIs for the Eagles in the first and third innings, as Alexis Contreras and Jordan Dippel earned the runs.

The Yotes tallied three runs in the first three innings, leading 3-2 going into the fourth. They then hit a three-run homer to solidify their lead and take the win, as neither team managed to score in the last three innings. Still, Northwest showed a lot of life in these last innings despite the lack of execution. They left three runners on base in the bottom of the fourth and two runners in the fifth. They just could not find the right hits at the right time to answer, as the Yotes finished their weekend sweep.
