Bellevue, Wash. – Northwest University (12-30) won two close games against Northwest Christian (10-31) on Friday night, winning the first game 1-0 and winning the second 3-2 in extra innings after a walk-off homerun from Sammi Caron.
Game one – Northwest University 1, Northwest Christian 0
The lone score in the game came off a double from Alexis Contreras in the third inning. The hit brought Sammi Caron in for the score. On the defensive side, the Eagles' Rachel Hawley pitched the whole game, giving up just one hit and throwing three strikeouts. This shut down any and all scoring for the Beacons, who were shut out of the game to give the Eagles the win!
Game two – Northwest University 3, Northwest Christian 2
The Eagles kept their momentum going heading into the second game of the night. They scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning, with
Isabella Gonzalez and Carly Tighe earning the RBIs.
The Beacons soon matched the Eagles' scoring tally, collecting two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game and to eventually force extra innings. However, Sammi Caron refused to delay the game any longer than it needed to be, by smashing a homerun down the right field line to earn the series-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth.
Isabella Gonzalez pitched all eight innings for the Eagles, throwing two strikeouts and giving up only six hits.
