Eagles Come Up Empty in Home Opener

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Central Washington got the single goal of the game in the second minute and held on for a 1-0 win over Northwest in the Eagles' home opener Saturday.

Makinzie Packwood scored 81 seconds into the game, and the teams stacked up pretty evenly from that point.

"We battled today," said NU Head Coach Bryan Chud. "We were down players and didn't have very many subs, requiring eight of our players to go 90 minutes. But we'll learn from this game today, and that's what the preseason is all about."

Northwest had 10 shots on the day, with Callie Wright and Sarah Hommas taking three apiece. Wright and Olivia Morris each put two shots on goal, with Hommas and Hannah Nicholson testing the CWU keeper once apiece.

Kat Sanchez had eight saves in the game.

The Eagles,0-2, get back on the road for the next three contests, starting with a trip to Nampa, Idaho, and a noon (Pacific) contest Saturday at Northwest Nazarene.
