GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Providence held off a second-half charge by Northwest for a 2-1 win Friday in the 2019 Cascade Collegiate Conference debut for both teams.
Â
The Eagles found themselves down 2-0 at halftime after goals by Argos' George Holloway and Leonardo Almeida.
Â
A save by NU's
Alexander Thiehofe on a penalty kick prevented more damage.
Â
The Eagles preserved their season-long scoring streak in the second half.
Leon Bormann crossed to
Elliot Misic, who was charging toward the goal from the right, and Misic put the ball past the keeper in the 73
rd minute.
Â
"Our first half was not good enough," recapped Northwest Head Coach
Gary McIntosh. "We did not compete the way we wanted or needed to. After our halftime talk, we came out in the second half and competed the way we wanted to and were rewarded with a nice goal by Elliot. We need to learn from this loss and apply what we learned moving forward."Â
Â
Northwest had eight shots in the game, led by
Gian Herrera with four, while Misic had all three of the team's shots on goal.
Â
Thiehofe had four saves in the game.
Â
Now 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference, the Eagles play at Carroll Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (Pacific).
