KIRKLAND – Northwest strode to the top of the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with a 2-1 win over Rocky Mountain on Friday.
With the win, NU Head Coach
Bryan Chud tied the school record in career women's soccer coaching victories at 46.
The Eagles scored both of their goals in the first 3:20 of the game.
Callie Wright grounded the ball past the keeper with an assist from
Elizabeth Moretti in the third minute.
Wright and
Olivia Morris got big touches for assists to set in motion a goal by
Rylee Rassier 23 seconds later for the 2-0 lead.
"We started extremely well and took our two goals well. We didn't close the game out, though, and Rocky played themselves into it," Chud said. "The second half, we showed great heart and character to hold on to the win, and I am very proud of that!"
Tiara Duford got Rocky Mountain on the scoreboard in the 39
th minute.
Rocky Mountain launched 19 shots in the game, with Lauryn Gamache taking five and placing two on goal.
The Eagles placed eight of their 12 shots on target, with
Callie Wright taking four shots and testing the keeper three times.
Kat Sanchez collected six saves for NU to get the win in goal.
The Eagles improved to 3-0 in the CCC and 7-2 overall, while RMC dipped to 2-1 in conference and 5-2 on the season.
Northwest hosts Corban Friday at 2:30 p.m.
