TACOMA – Northwest used a smothering defense and a goal by
Olivia Morris to grab a 1-0 win at Puget Sound Saturday.
Â
"We played a pretty complete game today, so that was pleasing," said NU Head Coach
Bryan Chud. "Defensively we continue to improve, and we were very solid today, earning our first shutout of the season. We were unlucky not to have scored more goals, but Liv scored a brilliant goal from long distance, and the result was a good one for us."
Â
The Eagles held the Loggers to one shot on goal and four shots overall and improved to 2-2 on the season.
Â
After a scoreless first half, Morris scored in the 82nd minute. Taking a feed from
Stephanie Wilson, Morris drove up the middle and launched the game winner from 18 yards out.
Â
Northwest peppered 18 shots, 11 on goal, including eight attempts and six shots on goal by
Sarah Hommas.
Â
Kiersten Patefield went untested for 90 minutes in goal and picked up the shutout.
Â
The Eagles return to action Wednesday with a trip to Portland to face Lewis & Clark College at 5 p.m.
