Eagles Fall to Warriors

KIRKLAND – Corban used a strong interior defense and impressive three-point shooting to hang a 76-53 loss on Northwest Saturday.

Corban set the defensive tone early with strong inside play. The Warriors blocked four NU shots in the first quarter alone, with Shaelie Burgess collecting three of those. The CU bigs led the way to a 59-29 rebound edge and eight blocked shots on the night.

Meanwhile, the Warriors knocked down 64 percent of their three-point attempts, including seven of nine in the first half.

Corban led 19-5 at the end of the first quarter and led by as many as 24 points in the second.

The Eagles were able to play a stronger second half, posting 34 points.

"It was a tough start tonight for the Lady Eagles, but we recovered and played better in the second half," said NU Head Coach Ken Crawford. "We are learning that we need to be tougher mentally and physically."

Maya DuChesne led Northwest with 11 points, while Sam Van Loo added three points and a team-leading seven rebounds.

Jordan Woodvine led Corban with 18, while Shawnie Spinks knocked down five of six three-point tries for 17. Burgess had five blocks and 11 rebounds.

The Eagles return to action with a weekend trip to Oregon Tech on Friday and Southern Oregon Saturday. Both games are 5:30 p.m. tips.
