PORTLAND – Northwest's offense took the day off as Warner Pacific limited the Eagles to one run in two games for a 5-0, 12-1 sweep Saturday.
Â
"We're not getting enough hits in general and clutch hits in particular," said NU Head Coach
Pam Fink. "We will keep working to improve. I don't think it's a lack of effort, so maybe we'll eventually turn the corner."
Â
The Eagles were blanked in the opener despite eight hits, led by
Alexis Contreras with two.
Jordan Dippel,
Sam Parisio,
Nicola Fish,
Palena Gomes,
Sammi Caron, and Meli Memea all had singles.
Â
Rachel Hawley absorbed the pitching loss while collecting three strikeouts.
Â
Northwest got one run in the second game, scoring in the second inning when
Jessica Nunes tripled and scored on a fly ball to right by Gomes. The triple by Nunes was her third this season, tying the school single-season record of Aubrey Slocum in 2017.
Â
Northwest had four hits in the game, with Carron adding two singles and Gomes getting another.
Â
Laurissa Lee took the loss for NU in her pitching debut.
Â
Northwest returns to action Saturday with two games against Corban. The Eagles play two games Saturday at Newport High School at noon and finish the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Interlake High School.
