BELLEVUE – Northwest put together a dozen hits, but no wins as No. 24 Corban claimed a 7-2, 4-0 sweep Saturday.
Â
"We're battling a lot of injuries right now, so it was good to see us hit with Corban in the first game," said NU Head Coach
Pam Fink, whose team is down four starters. "We've got some good kids who are giving it all they've got, and they want to get better."
Â
Northwest took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when
Nicola Fish singled ahead of
Jessica Nunes' two-out, two-run home run.
Â
Rachel Hawley (3-7) held the Warriors scoreless until the fifth when Corban scratched out one run. CU scored six runs–three unearned–in the sixth.
Â
NU had nine hits in the contest, led
Jordan Dippel, Fish, and Nunes with two each.
Alexis Contreras added a triple, and
Abby Brake and
Nalomeli Memea contributed singles.
Â
Hawley struck out three batters.
Â
Madison Wylie and Kaylee Buhrkuhl had two hits apiece for the Warriors.
Â
The Eagles managed just three hits–singles by Fish, Nunes, and Brake–in the nightcap.Â
Â
Buhrkuhl had two hits and two RBI to spur Corban, while Kaylee Brown went the distance in the circle.
Â
Hawley fanned three in her five innings, and Brake pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Â
The same two teams meet again Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Interlake High School to wrap up the series.
