Corban Completes Sweep of Eagles

BELLEVUE – Corban completed a sweep of Northwest Sunday, including a no-hitter by Ally Crakes in the second game, 7-6 and 5-0.

"We stood toe-to-toe with them in the first game. I think everyone had a strong moment in that game, but we still have a long way to go and a lot of improvements to make," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We've got a lot of injuries right now, but we can't settle for less than a great effort every game and every at-bat."

In the opener, the Eagles spotted Corban four runs in the top of the first. Northwest tied the game with four runs in the home half of the inning. Jordan Dippel singled and scored on a one-out double by Nicola Fish. With two out and two on, Alexis Contreras homered to left-center to make it a 4-4 game.

Down 7-4 in the seventh, Northwest got RBI singles by Contreras and Nalomeli Memea to narrow the lead to 7-6, but the Eagles left the tying run at second base.

NU banged out 13 hits with Dippel, Fish, Jessica Nunes, Contreras, Memea, and Ashley Oswald getting two apiece to go with singles by Abby Brake.

Rachel Hawley took the loss, going the distance for NU and striking out three batters. Memea gunned down three would-be base-stealers from behind the plate.

Corban racked up 13 hits, including two each by Makiah Johnson, Kaylee Buhrkuhl, Sam Woodley, Megan Rybar, and Ivey Uppinghouse.

Crakes needed just 67 pitches in the no-hitter, which is the third against Northwest since the program began in 2013. Crakes struck out six batters and just missed a perfect game, allowing a five-pitch walk to Memea in the sixth inning. Memea's pinch-runner was caught stealing in an unsuccessful hit and run, and Crakes faced the minimum 21 batters.

Brake went the distance for NU, allowing four earned runs while striking out four batters.

Woodley and Morgan Gleeson had three hits each, and Rybar and Kaycee Arase added two each in Corban's 13-hit attack.

Crakes got all the support she needed with a leadoff home run by Johnson in the first inning.

The Eagles return to action next weekend with four games at College of Idaho.
