KIRKLAND – Evergreen State scored two second-half goals to secure a 3-2 win over Northwest Saturday, overcoming two one-goal deficits.
Â
The Eagles broke out on top in the 29th minute when
Tyler Hopp put one through the mitts of the Geoduck keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Â
Gavin McLeroy tied the game in the 39th minute on a penalty kick and the contest would go to halftime tied at 1-1.
Â
Gian Herrera put the Eagles on top quickly in the second half, playing in a cross from
Elliot Misic 38 seconds into the second half.
Â
Brandon Clough got the equalizer in the 51st minute and Alex Young buried a free kick in the 61st minute for the game-winner after the Eagles were called for a foul after an ESC offside call.
Â
"Disappointing loss today," said NU Head Coach
Gary McIntosh. "We had moments in the game that we played well enough to score a few more goals but could not make it happen. We made too many mistakes overall and give Evergreen credit for capitalizing on them. We need to stop making mistakes that cost us and be better in our final third."
Â
NU had 19 shots in the game, led by Misic and
Kyle Han with four each. The Eagles had 10 shots on goal. Misic tested the ESC keeper three times with Han and
Titus Nickson putting two shots on goal each. Herrera, Hopp, and
Brayden Corwin had one SOG each.
Â
Alexander Thiehofe had six saves.
Â
Now 8-6-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles round out the regular season next week with home games against Eastern Oregon and the College of Idaho.
Â
"This next week is an important week of practice for us before our last two games," said McIntosh.
