Corban Holds Off Eagles

SALEM – Corban scored two first-half goals and recorded a 2-1 win over Northwest on Friday.

The Eagles took the lead in the 13th minute when Callie Wright scored with an assist from Halley Marschall.

Maria Frances-Serran got the equalizer in the 27th minute, and Julia Pires gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute. NU trailed 2-1 at the half.

The NU defense tightened in the second half, but the Eagles couldn't produce a second goal.

"We knew today would be a battle, and it was from the start," said NU Head Coach Bryan Chud. "We asked the girls to play with more intensity and energy, and they definitely responded. I am proud of the effort and the fight, and we easily could've won this match on a different day had the ball bounced our way a bit differently."

Kierstin Patefield finished the game with five saves.

Northwest took 10 shots and put three on goal. Wright and Claire Jo Diede led the Eagles with four shots each, with Wright getting all three shots on goal.

Now 3-6-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles travel to Eugene for a 3 p.m. contest at Bushnell on Saturday.
