Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Northwest put 14 of its 21 shots on goal but came away with a 3-0 loss at the hands of No. 19 Oregon Tech in the Cascade Collegiate Conference semifinals Wednesday.
Â
Kiah Wetzell had a hat trick for the Owls, scoring in the 24th, 36th, and 84th minutes.
Â
"Tonight was a hard night," said NU Head Coach
Bryan Chud. "We fought hard and played with heart, but OIT took their chances when they came and defended well throughout. Soccer can be a cruel game, and tonight it feels that way. The scoreline did not reflect the game at all, and I am extremely proud of this team for not only tonight but also for the entire season and all we have achieved on and off the field."
Â
Claire Jo Diede led the Eagles with six shots, and
Callie Wright added five in a steady but fruitless offensive onslaught in wet conditions.
Â
Diede had four shots on goal, Wright had three, and Oliva Morris,
Maya Lewis, and
Kayla Soderstrom tested OIT keeper Alyx Burkhartzmeyer twice each.
Liv Lagerquist also had one shot on goal.
Â
Kierstin Patefield logged seven saves in the game.
Â
The Eagles finish the conference tournament at 10-7-3 and have to hope their resume is good enough for an at-large bid.
Â
"We will now await our fate to find out if we get an at-large bid to nationals to keep our season going," Chud said. "Whatever the case, I am so proud to coach these girls and this program."
Â
Oregon Tech plays the College of Idaho in the finals on Friday, and both of those teams will move on to the NAIA Opening Round.
