KIRKLAND – Northwest Head Coach
Ken Crawford picked up his 100th win at the university, and the Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season with a 61-51 win over Montana State-Northern Friday night.
Â
"I never scored a basket, got a rebound, or made a great pass at NU, so all the credit has to go to the players and the assistant coaches," Crawford said. "I've been blessed here, and I'm grateful for the support from the administration. I love being here."
Â
Northwest led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, but a three-point play by Shyan Krass cut the lead to 44-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Â
The Eagles rediscovered their touch in the fourth quarter and got the lead back out to double figures.
Â
Northwest held the Skylights to 32.2 percent shooting and forced 23 turnovers.
Â
"Our defense was the key tonight," Crawford said. "Livi (Lindsey), Grace (Meza), and Maya (DuChesne) get a lot of credit for the win tonight with how they did against their guards. Our post play was good, too."
Â
Meza led the team with 16 points, with Lindsey getting 15 and
Sam VanLoo logging a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. NU had 14 steals, with DuChesne getting five, while Meza and Lindsey had three each.
Â
VanLoo blocked five shots.
Â
The Eagles, 2-0, face 7-1 Providence Saturday night at 7.
