PORTLAND – Short-handed Northwest took Warner Pacific to overtime but couldn't pull out a third big comeback on the night, falling 96-86.
Â
NU got career scoring highs and double-doubles from
Rayvaughn Bolton,
Daniel Sharpe, and
Devante Powell.
Â
The Eagles trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before narrowing the divide to 43-42 by halftime. NU used a 20-5 run to take a brief lead, 30-29, with 5:24 remaining in the half. Bolton had seven points in that spree.
Â
NU trailed by 11 points in the second half and took a late lead on a pair of Bolton free throws, but the Knights scored with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game. The Eagles missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Â
Northwest struck first in the overtime period, but WPU was sizzling and took control of the game with 60 percent shooting in the extra frame.
Â
"The guys really battled and played with heart," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "I was very pleased with the effort. So many had to play out of position tonight because we were short-handed. This will definitely make us stronger moving forward."
Â
Bolton led NU with 30 points and a dozen rebounds. Sharpe added 22 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals before fouling out. Powell had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and a team-leading four assists.
Â
Now 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Northwest plays at Multnomah at 5 p.m. on Saturday to finish its Portland trip.
