KIRKLAND – Northwest picked up its first win in its first home game, stopping George Fox 68-53 Saturday.
"The girls have been working hard, and it's good to see them get rewarded with a win," said NU Head Coach
Ken Crawford. "I'm excited to get back on the court in less than 24 hours and get after it again."
Thirty-two players got in the game, including all 17 on Northwest's roster.
The Eagles fell behind early, 13-6, but closed out the first quarter on a 14-0 run.
Grace Meza scored five points to lead the five-pronged spurt.
The defenses flexed in the second quarter, and the Eagles had a 30-23 lead at halftime.
Shelaine Lorenz got the ball to
Grace Hammond for a layup to give NU its biggest lead of the third quarter, 46-32, with 1:52 left.
Sam VanLoo scored in the paint with 2:46 remaining in the game to give the Eagles their largest lead, 65-48.
VanLoo led all scorers with 13 points, followed by
Livi Lindsey with 11 and
Maya DuChesne with 10. DuChesne and Hammond had three assists each.
Lindsey,
Andie Kristinat, and Lorenz had five rebounds each. VanLoo, Lindsey, and
Caitlin Monten registered three steals apiece.
Kate Huguenin led the Bruins with nine points.
The same two teams meet again Sunday at 2 p.m. in Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
