KIRKLAND – Northwest opened the season with a pair of 3-0 losses to Seattle Pacific Saturday in Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
Â
The Eagles lost the opener, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, and the nightcap, 25-23, 29-27, 25-16.
Â
"It's been a year since today's teams have had a chance to compete, so from our perspective, the opportunity was more important than the outcome," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "Still, I give credit to SPU. They are a well-coached, athletic, and physically talented team, and we struggled to contain their offensive firepower. On the plus side, we were able to try some different things, and when we look at the film, I am sure that we will observe more good than bad. We will study this experience carefully, and after a couple of weeks off for spring break, I know that our team will be excited to get back on the court."
Â
Abi Broussard led NU with five kills, two aces, and a block in the first game.
Â
Tatiana Ensz had eight kills, and
Hannah Lord tallied seven in the second game.
Courteney Carr had 14 assists, and
Anna Saelens added 13. Broussard added three aces.
Â
Defensively, Broussard had two blocks, and
Cristina Lorenz came up with 11 digs.
Â
The Eagles return to action at home on March 19 against Seattle Pacific to finish off the series.
