Omojola Scores 27 in NU Loss at SPU

SEATTLE – Kelvin Omojola nearly doubled his previous scoring high, and Northwest challenged its first non-NCAA Division I opponent in a 79-72 loss at Seattle Pacific Wednesday.

Omojola scored 27 points to go with a team-leading four steals and five rebounds. The senior guard was 10 of 15 from the field, including an impressive six-of-seven from three-point range. His previous best was 14 points.

"Kelvin played a great game, and it was good to see him play like that," said NU Head Coach Jeff Drinkwine. "We didn't get the win, but we found out a lot about ourselves tonight against a like opponent. We're right there."

The Eagles had leads early as Omojola staked NU to a 4-2 lead on a four-point play. Daniel Sharpe scored twice in the paint to put the Eagles ahead 8-4 with 17:43 left in the first half.

SPU went on a 13-0 run from there and later expanded its lead to 34-21 with 5:12 remaining in the opening frame. The Falcons led 38-29 at the half.

After falling behind 55-43 with 12:21 left in the game, Northwest went on a 12-5 run. Spurred by three-pointers by Omojola and Cacoa Chatman, NU found itself within 60-55 when Pa'Treon Lee scored on a driving layup with 8:56 to go.

The Eagles turned the ball over three times over the next four possessions, and the Falcons built their lead back to 12.

Omojola hit his final three-pointer with six seconds left for the final margin.

Sharpe joined Omojola in double figures in the scoring column with 10 points, while Lee and Chatman added nine each. Lee led the squad with four assists, and Cesar Sandoval hauled down five rebounds.

Reigning GNAC Player of the Week, Harry Cavell led the Falcons with 26 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
