SEATTLE – Northwest University fell 6-0 Thursday to defending Pac-12 champion Washington in NU's first contest since 2019.
Â
Alexander Thiehofe and
Brandon Karberg split time in goal, each recording five saves.
Â
NU trailed 2-0 at intermission.
Â
"I think the team did a really good job in the first half," said NU Head Coach
Gary McIntosh. "Washington moves the ball very quickly, and they make fast decisions. They know what they want to do, but I thought our guys competed very well against them, in the first half especially."
Â
Twenty Eagles experienced soccer in Husky Stadium with only
Dylan Murphy and
Kyle Han logging 90 minutes for Northwest.
Â
"I felt like we held our own against the eighth-ranked team in the nation," said McIntosh. "I started to make some substitutions in the second half, and we got a little disorganized; we didn't keep our shape defensively. Overall, it was a great experience for our guys, and it allowed us to play our first game in about 15 months. We're excited about the season ahead of us."
Â
NU opens the season Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at Seattle Pacific.
