Eagles Drop Tough One at WPU in OT

PORTLAND – Kyle Han scored a pair of goals, but Northwest dropped a heartbreaker, 4-3, in overtime at Warner Pacific Sunday.

Han used a corner kick assist from Gian Herrera to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.

Christian Bahena scored the first of his two goals to tie the game for the Knights in the 28th minute.

Elliott Misic returned the lead to the Eagles in the 31st minute, 2-1.

Nick Evans tied it for WPU in the 47th minute with the first of his two goals.

Han produced a 3-2 lead for NU in the 83rd minute, but Evans got the equalizer less than three minutes later and sent the game to overtime.

Bahena got the golden goal in the third minute of the extra period.

Northwest launched 15 shots in the game, led by Han, Misic, and Tyler Hopp with three each. Han and Misic had two shots on goal each, while Herrera, Leon Bormann, Hopp, Titus Nickson, and Tyler Siedenburg tested the WPU keeper once each.

Alexander Thiehofe had six saves in goal for the Eagles.

"It's always tough to lose, but I'm pleased with our effort today," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "We are making mistakes, and it is leading to goals against us. We need to do a better job with our shape."

The teams meet again at 5 p.m., Monday, in Portland to finish the series.
