Eagles Blank Southern Oregon, 3-0

KIRKLAND – Northwest scored three goals in the first half and made it stand up for a 3-0 win against Southern Oregon in both teams' Cascade Collegiate Conference opener Sunday.

Anna Lau had two goals in her NU home debut while Callie Wright added a goal and an assist.

"Today was a solid team performance all the way around," said NU Head Coach Bryan Chud. "It has been a tough preseason, but today we did a very good job of executing up front, defending as a unit, and managing the game. Callie scored a great goal early on, and Anna had two great finishes as well in her Conference debut, but overall, it was a good team performance, and we'll look to improve on that tomorrow."

Wright took a pass from Sarah Hommas for the first goal in the fourth minute for a 1-0 lead.

Wright had her next shot deflected by the SOU keeper and Anna Lau buried the rebound for a 2-0 lead.

Lau intercepted a misguided Raider pass and scored her second goal to complete the day's scoring with 18:14 showing in the first half.

The Eagles out-shot Southern Oregon 11-5 and put seven shots on goal. Hommas had three shots with Lau, Jennifer Conner, Olivia Morris, and Wright getting two shots each. Lau, Wright, and Hommas had two shots on goal with Conner adding one.

Kiersten Patefield got the win in goal with a one-save shutout.

The same two teams meet again on the NU pitch Monday at 1 p.m. to close the series.
