BELLEVUE – Northwest got solid pitching outings from
Becca Rennick and
Sydney Maurer in a doubleheader split with Eastern Oregon Friday.
Â
Rennick allowed two runs over six innings of relief and struck out five in a 6-0 loss in the opener before Maurer went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits in a 7-2 win.
Â
"We pitched pretty well today," said NU Head Coach
Pam Fink. "We needed that complete game from Sydney and Becca gave us a chance in the first game. We couldn't get anything going offensively in the first game and that was a disappointment. It was good to see us hit a little better in the second game."
Â
Eastern Oregon scored four times in the first inning of the opener, including a two-run home run by Jacie Howton.
Â
A Haley Ebner sacrifice fly in the third and an RBI double by Taylor Dow in the sixth gave EOU the 6-0 lead.
Â
The Eagles had four hits with
Kayla Stanley,
Nicola Fish,
Jordan Dippel, and
Sam Parisio getting singles.
Â
Amanda Smith picked up the win, striking out five in the complete game.
Â
The Mountaineers opened the second game with a 1-0 lead on an RBI ground out by Howton.
Â
The Eagles took their first lead of the day in the second inning. Dippel walked, moved to second on a sacrifice by Parisio and to third on a base hit by
Ashley Oswald. Dippel scored on a double-steal and Oswald came around later on an RBI single by
Sammi Caron.
Â
NU added two in the third on a two-run double by
Deanna Johnson to make it 4-1.
Â
EOU cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth when Kayla Berg tripled and scored on a fielder's choice.
Â
The Eagles got that run and two more back in the home half of the sixth. Fish was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the fifth run, Stanley scored on an errant throw, and Fish scored on a wild pitch.
Â
Northwest finished with nine hits, led by Stanley with a pair of doubles and Caron with two singles. Johnson,
Alyssa Maldonado, Dippel, Parisio, and Oswald had one hit each.
Â
The teams finish the series with a noon doubleheader at Bellevue High School on Saturday.
