Eagles Take Series vs. EOU

BELLEVUE – Northwest claimed a Cascade Collegiate Conference series win in a doubleheader split with Eastern Oregon Saturday.

Northwest won the first game 2-1 before falling 13-0 in the finale.

Becca Rennick and Abby Brake scattered five hits in the opener. Rennick went five shutout innings for the win while Brake picked up her first save, allowing one run over two innings. Rennick fanned five and Brake one.

"Becca had a great series and Abby pitched well in relief today," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "It's great to get that series win. We're going to keep working hard and see if we can continue to get it done."

The Eagles got both their runs in the first inning. Kayla Stanley and Jessica Nunes reached on one-out singles and moved up to second and third on a ground out by  Nicola Fish. Stanley scored on a wild pick-off throw before Alyssa Maldonado came through with an RBI single.

NU finished with eight singles, including two each by Nunes and Ashley Oswald. Sammi Caron, Stanley, Maldonado and Jordan Dippel had one apiece.

Rennick kept batters off balance and got defensive gems from Oswald in right and Stanley at short to stave off rallies.

EOU scored one in the sixth on an RBI single by Olivia Zufelt, but Zufelt was thrown out at second by Dippel.

Brake worked two innings to finish the game, allowing just one run.

Ashton Kazmierski threw an abbreviated one-hitter in the second game with Dippel legging out an infield single in the fourth inning.

EOU scored five in the first, the big blow coming on a three-run home run by Jacie Howton. Jordan Henley and Makenzie Chambers added two-run singles in a five-run fourth inning.

The Eagles return to action Friday and Saturday with a four-game set against Corban in Salem, Oregon.
