NU Seniors Get First Win Against Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Northwest ended a 14-game losing streak in the Corban series as the Eagles and Warriors split a pair of run-rule contests Friday.

After losing the opener 10-1, Northwest bounced back for a 13-4 victory in the second game.

"The first game was pretty frustrating," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "But our ladies put it behind them, and we executed things pretty well against a good team in the second game. It was good for our seniors to get a win in this series. We'll get some rest and try to get this series tomorrow morning."

NU gathered six hits in the opener, including two each by Jordan Dippel and Sam Parisio. Alyssa Maldonado had a double, and Kayla Stanley added a single.

NU scored its run in the fourth inning when Dippel singled, stole second, and scored on a base hit by Parisio.

Sydney Maurer took the pitching loss.

Corban took a 3-0 lead in the second game with three runs in the third inning.

Northwest answered with an eight-run fourth. Ashley Oswald had a two-run single to make it a one-run game, and Stanley tied it with an RBI single. Maldonado got an RBI with a bases-loaded walk to set the stage for a grand slam by Jessica Nunes.

The Eagles tacked on five in the fifth. Sammi Caron stole home, and Oswald added an RBI single to make it 10-3. Dippel brought home a run with a fielder's choice before Maldonado ripped a two-run double for a 13-3 lead.

Northwest made the most of its seven hits in the game. Oswald had two hits, with Dippel, Stanley, Maldonado, Nunes, and Nicola Fish getting one apiece.

The teams play an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday to finish the series.
