NU to Host Providence, Rocky This Weekend

KIRKLAND – Northwest plays its first Cascade Collegiate Conference games of the season when Providence (Friday) and Rocky Mountain (Saturday) visit from Montana for a pair of 12:30 p.m. games this weekend. 
 
Northwest is 3-4 all time against Providence, the Argos having won the last two contests, both by 2-1 counts. Northwest is 1-3 against Providence in Kirkland.
 
Elliot Misic had the lone Northwest goal when the Eagles last played Providence–a 2-1 win for the Argos in Montana in 2019. 
 
Northwest is 1-5 all time against Rocky Mountain. The Eagles ended their futility against the Battlin' Bears in 2019 with a 2-0 win. NU is 1-3 in the series when playing in Kirkland. 
 
Alexander Thiehofe had 11 saves–many of them diving stops–to get the shutout against Rocky Mountain, 2-0, in 2019. Thiehofe earned Cascade Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the effort.
 
Northwest comes off a pair of 2-1 losses on their initial Cascade Collegiate Conference road trip. In the loss at Southern Oregon, Brayden Corwin had the lone NU goal. The Eagles lost on a penalty kick in the second half and played most of the half a man down. 
 
Northwest hasn't tasted defeat in its first Cascade Collegiate Conference home game since 2010. The Eagles are 8-0-2 since Concordia thwarted the Eagles 11 years ago to the day (9/24/2010). NU played Corban to a 1-1 draw last spring. 
 
With 16 points, Misic leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference. He has a CCC-leading six goals and is second in the league with four assists. He also shares the CCC lead with three game-winning goals and 20 shots. Misic's 16 points are 17th in the NAIA.
 
With 27 saves, Alexander Thiehofe is second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and is 40th in the NAIA. He is fifth all time at Northwest with 123. He also is fourth with six career shutouts. He has a 2.00 goals-against average this season.
 
Providence enters the game on Friday with a 1-2 overall and 1-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference record after its 1-0 win over Rocky Mountain Saturday. Matthew Wilkinson has the team's only goal this season, and Mika Lukas Lankhof has the lone assist. Evan Scholes has a 0.50 goals-against average with 11 saves in his two starts this season.
 
Rocky Mountain absorbed its first loss of the season in their Cascade Collegiate Conference opener Saturday in the 1-0 loss to Providence. Zach Wall, Igor Soares, and Milo Downey have two goals apiece to lead the Bears. Five different Bears have one assist each. Ryan Cornwall has a 0.95 goals-against average, collecting 11 saves and three shutouts this season.
