Eagles, Bears Play to 1-1 Tie

KIRKLAND – Northwest and Rocky Mountain played to a 1-1, double-overtime draw Saturday.

Alex Thiehofe logged 14 saves and got a hand on the game-tying penalty kick for a stellar performance in goal.

Elliot Misic gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when he gathered his own carom and drove past the keeper for the score.

Milo Downey tied the score in the 37th minute with the penalty kick.

"I'm proud of the effort and sacrifice the guys played with today," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "This was a whole team stepping up and giving their all. We knew Rocky was a very good technical team, and we wanted to outwork them. We created some good opportunities but could not find another goal.  Alex was awesome between the posts today coming up with some huge saves.  Elliot has been excellent up front and is always a threat."

Northwest had 15 shots in the game, led by Misic with five. Gian Herrera took three, and Tyler Siedenburg and Brayden Corwin attempted two apiece. Six Eagle shots were on goal. Herrera and Misic tested the RMC keeper twice, and Tyler Hopp and Siedenburg had one shot on goal each.

Ethan Boone had five shots, and Downey had three shots on goal to lead the Bears.

"Getting the tie was huge for us in the playoff race of this very tight conference," said McIntosh. "Now we have a few days off to rest, then we look forward to our trip to Carroll next week."

Now 5-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles set out for two weekends of road games. The journey begins Friday at Carroll College.
