PORTLAND – For 59 minutes it looked as though Northwest's dominant performance was not to be rewarded, but the Eagles rallied from down two goals to claim a significant 3-2 win at Multnomah on Friday.
The win kept Multnomah from moving ahead of the Eagles in the standings.
Michael Appiah scored Multnomah's goals in the 27th and 55th minutes to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Max Herrig got the Eagles on the scoreboard in the 60th minute, ripping in a feed from
Michael Kozorezov.
The Eagles got the equalizer in the 69th minute, with
Frederik Marten scoring with an assist from
Angel Ventura.
Elliot Misic got the game-winning goal in the 79th minute, using a pass from
Tyler Siedenburg.
"The first half for us was sluggish, slow play, and not how we want to play," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "Second half, the guys took to heart what we talked about at halftime, which resulted in us getting three goals. The response from the team in the second half to come from behind was excellent. We had three stellar goals."
Northwest outshot its host 15-6, led by Misic with four (all on frame). Marten,
Jacen Stein, and
Tyler Hopp had two shots each.
The Eagles had 11 shots on goal, led by Misic's four. Hopp had two, and Herrig, Marten, Kozorezov, and
Jacob Moon had one apiece.
Alexander Thiehofe had two saves to get the win in goal.
Now 6-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles remain in Portland to take on CCC frontrunner Warner Pacific at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
