NU Seals Conference Title in Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest claimed the regular season Cascade Collegiate Conference championship Friday afternoon with a 2-1 win at the College of Idaho.

The Eagles stayed undefeated on the season and handed the No. 22 Yotes its first CCC loss of the season. The win gives NU the top seed in next week's CCC Tournament as well as an automatic qualifying berth to the NAIA National Opening Round.

Claire Jo Diede had both goals for the Eagles, including the game-winner in the 16th minute.

That 1-0 lead carried over into the second half.

Northwest made it 2-0 on Diede's goal in the 78th minute.

Gianna Yslava scored 62 seconds later to keep the game in a dramatic phase, but the NU defense never allowed another shot.

"We are so proud of the way the team came out and fought every second of the game," the NU assistant coaches said. "We finished when we needed to and played a solid 90 minutes as a united team. We knew how big this game was, but the outcome we saw today was the result of approaching every single game this entire season with our team philosophy in mind: 'Compete to be the best version of yourself on and off the field, and improve that version every day.'

The Eagles had eight shots for the contest, getting two each by Diede and Liv Lagerquist. All four of those shots were on goal and the Eagles also had shots on goal by Kayla Soderstrom, Anna Lau and Colette Liston.

Hanne Breur recorded four saves to pick up the win in goal.

The league champions finish off the regular season with a 4 p.m. contest at Eastern Oregon on Saturday.
