Eagles Stay Hot in Win Over Walla Walla

KIRKLAND – Northwest's hot hand continued on Saturday with the Eagles shooting 50 percent from the field and draining 17 three-pointers in a 95-74 win over Walla Walla.

With much of its height sidelined with injuries, the Eagles have turned to shooting and sharing with great results.

"Obviously, we had to adjust the offense," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We spread the floor and got better spacing and allowed our guards to attack. We got better shots."

Drew Bryson led the Eagles with 28 points, followed by CaCoa Chatman with 17, Brody Steinhart with 15, and Isaiah Williams with 12. Bryson and Steinhart combined for a 13-of-22 night from three-point range.

Williams came through with a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to his point total and helping the Eagles to a 45- 28 advantage in the rebounding column. Lewis Pope led NU with 11 caroms.

The teams battled evenly through the first 10 minutes, with Caleb Golden scoring 24 points in the first half for the Wolves.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Steinhart gave NU a 30-22 lead with 7:54 left in the first half, and Williams got a steal and a basket for the Eagles' first 10-point lead, 32-22, with 6:52 to go. Steinhart added another trey for a 35-24 lead 27 seconds later.

The Wolves trimmed the lead back to 49-41 by halftime.

NU made the defensive adjustment to slow down Golden, holding him to four points in the second half. The Eagles' lead peaked at 23 points on one last Steinhart three-pointer with 3:02 to go, 93-70.

Steinhart led the Eagles with seven assists, with Pope adding four. AJ Chappell had three steals.

Now 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, NU plays at Evergreen State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
