Softball Drops Two in Texas

ALLEN, Texas – Northwest dropped a pair of games Saturday in the Winter Classic, falling to McPherson, 6-3 and Huston Tillotson, 12-8.
 
Emily Barry had five hits on the day to lead the Eagles.
 
"Today was a learning day and we got better in some areas today," said Pam Fink. "We hit well. We didn't quit. We just have to keep working to get better every day."

After leading 3-0, the Eagles allowed six runs in the fifth inning to fall 6-3. 
 
Emily Barry delivered a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single after Madisyn Leffle had singled and stolen second. Leffle singled again in the third and again scored on an RBI single by Barry.
 
NU got its final run in the fourth when Sam Parisio doubled and scored on an error.
 
Barry had three of NU's nine hits in the game with Leffle and Parisio adding two each.
 
Sydney Mauer pitched 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and Bella King was charged with the pitching loss. Both pitchers allowed three runs.

After three scoreless innings, the offenses of both teams took over.
 
HTC struck first with a two-run home run in the fourth inning but the Eagles got one back on a solo home run by Barry.
 
The Rams poured on five runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to build an 8-1 lead.
 
NU scored twice in the sixth when Nicola Fish and Olivia Brown produced back-to-back doubles and Parisio added an RBI single.
 
The Eagles added five more runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Jordan Dippel, a two-run double by Jessica Nunes, and an RBI single by Ashley Carter.
 
Dippel had three of Northwest's 10 hits with Barry adding two.
 
King took the loss in relief. Becca Rennick allowed two runs over four innings as the starting pitcher.
 
Now 2-2, the Eagles take on Baker on the Texas finale Sunday at 8 a.m. (Pacific).
