Softball Wins Corban Series for First Time

BELLEVUE – Alyssa Maldonado finished the day with a walk-off single and Northwest picked up its first series win against Corban, taking two of three games on Friday.
 
The Eagles won the first game, 7-5, lost the second 5-2, and took the finale in nine innings, 7-6.
 
"We had a pretty productive day at the plate and we pitched well today," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "It's good to finally get that series win over Corban and start to work our way up the standings."

The Eagles got off to a 2-0 lead in the first when Madisyn Leffle singled ahead of a two-run home run by Kayla Stanley. NU went ahead 5-0 in the third inning when Maldonado had a two-run double and scored on a two-bagger by Sam Parisio.
 
Corban got back into the game in the fourth when Mary McElligot had a two-run triple and scored on a single by Karla Calderon.
 
After singles by Abby Blahut and Leffle, Emily Barry got a two-run single for a 7-2 NU lead in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Leffle had three hits while Barry and Blahut added two each to pace the 10-hit NU offense.
 
Bella King went the distance for the pitching win.
 
Corban 5, NU 2
 
The Warriors never trailed in the second game after Anastasia Iosia's three-run home run in the first inning.
 
The Eagles scored twice in the second inning on a two-run double by Blahut.
 
Madison Wylie homered for the CU in the third and Iosia added an RBI double in the sixth for the final margin.
 
The Eagles had four hits with Stanley, Blahut, Nicola Fish and Jordan Dippel getting one each.
 
Becca Rennick took the pitching loss.
 
NU 7, Corban 6
 
NU got out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning. NU got back-to-back RBI singles by Dippel and Blahut, Stanley had an RBI grounder, Fish added a two-run single and Maldonado finished the scoring with an RBI single.
 
Moments after a play at out at second was overturned, Tatiana Liu launched a grand slam in the fourth for four unearned runs to make it 6-4.
 
Corban added two more unearned runs to tie the game in the seventh.
 
Corban got runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth but couldn't get the go-ahead run.
 
Stanley was hit by a pitch to start the ninth and moved to second on a single by Barry. Fish bunted the runners up and with two outs, Maldonado singled through the left side for the game-winner.
 
NU had 11 hits, including three by Maldonado and two each by Leffle and Jessica Nunes.
 
Sydney Maurer pitched seven innings with no earned runs and King (4-7) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief.
 
The Eagles, now 7-15 overall and 4-8 in the conference, host Western Washington in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
