Eagles Finish Carroll Series with Split

BELLEVUE – Northwest split a pair of games with Carroll College Saturday, losing the first game 5-1 before taking the series finale 4-2. The Eagles won the series 3-1, including a 2-1 advantage in Cascade Collegiate Conference games.

"It was disappointing to drop that conference game, but I was glad to see our ladies bounce back and leave the field with a win," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We had some pretty good pitching today, and we had some good spots in the hitting lineup as well."

Carroll 5, Northwest 1

Northwest got its lone run in the fourth inning when Jordan Dippel doubled and scored on an RBI double by Jessica Nunes.

The Eagles had seven hits in the game, led by Dippel and Emily Barry with two each. Madisyn Leffle, Nunes, and Alyssa Maldonado also had hits.

Bella King took the loss despite limiting Carroll to two earned runs over six innings.

Northwest 4, Carroll 2 (non-conference)

Sydney Maurer, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning in the first game, pitched six more scoreless innings in the second game before Carroll busted up her shutout in the seventh inning. She collected three strikeouts.

Northwest scored a single run in each of the first two innings. In the first, Barry smacked a two-out double, moved to third on a single by Dippel, and scored on a wild pitch.

Maldonado produced an RBI single in the second inning to make it 2-0.

NU went ahead 4-0 in the fifth with an RBI double by Nunes and a sacrifice fly by Maurer.

The Eagles had 10 hits in the game, led by Barry, Nunes, and Dippel with two each. King, Maldonado, Abby Blahut, and Nicola Fish had one apiece.

Now 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles step outside of league action for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against St. Martin's. NU hosts the games at Bellevue College.
