Saints Trip Up Eagles

BELLEVUE – Northwest dropped a pair of games to St. Martin's on Wednesday, 8-3 and 11-3.

The Eagles used the non-conference games to prepare for this weekend's four-game series at No. 3 College of Idaho.

"We're obviously disappointed in the losses, but we're just trying to get better and better each day," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We'll take on another top-five team this weekend, and we will be competitive."

SMU 8, NU 3

Northwest fell behind early, 1-0, but tied the game in the first inning when Kayla Stanley was hit by a pitch, took second on a sacrifice, third on a wild pitch, and scored as part of a double-steal attempt.

The Eagles added two more runs in the seventh. Sydney Maurer got a one-out single and moved up to third on a double by Alyssa Maldonado. Sam Parisio and Madisyn Leffle produced back-to-back RBI singles for the final margin.

Northwest had five hits, led by Stanley and Maldonado with doubles.

Becca Rennick took the pitching loss.

SMU 11, NU 3

Down 2-0 early, the Eagles again tied things up in the first inning. Leffle led off with a single ahead of a two-run home run by Emily Barry.

The Eagles plated their third run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nicola Fish.

NU had three hits in the game, led by Barry with two.

Sydney Maurer took the pitching loss.

NU, now 5-10, plays two games Friday at noon Pacific Time and two more beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific on Saturday in Caldwell, Idaho.
